When you think of Abu Dhabi, you might picture glamorous hotels, stunning beaches and amazing restaurants, but not many people know that the capital of the UAE also has its own safari island.
Sir Bani Yas Island is an incredible experience that’s a must for any Abu Dhabi resident or visitor.
The island is one of the eight Al Gharbia desert islands, and it’s a great place to do all sorts of wildlife and adventure-based activities.
It’s home to more than 10,000 free-roaming animals, including Arabian oryx, gazelles, giraffes, ostriches and even cheetahs.
You can take to the water surrounding the island and go snorkelling. You’re guaranteed to see loads of colourful fish, and if you’re lucky you might even spot a rare hawksbill turtle.
You can also go on a sunset kayaking trip to spot flamingos, cormorants and other wildlife. Or, if you prefer to stick to dry land, you can explore the island by taking part in a sunrise Wadi walk or by going mountain biking.
