What it’s like getting the bus in Abu Dhabi

How to get around the capital on public transport

We all know there are buses in Abu Dhabi, but, be honest, how many of us ever catch them?

Do you know that you have to get a Hafilat card before you can ride one?

It’s easy to think the only way to get around is to drive yourself or to catch a taxi, but the public bus service is super-affordable and super-convenient.

Rides cost as little as Dhs2 and there are routes all over the capital – heading as far and wide as Mussafah and the Louvre on Saadiyat Island.

We decided to see how easy it was, and once we had our Hafilat card from the bus terminal in Al Wahda it was a doddle.

There’s an app (Darb) where you can check routes and timetables, so once you know where you’re heading, all you need to do is catch a bus, swipe in and away you go.

IN our vlog, Shaikh travelled from our office in Khalifa Park to Downtown Abu Dhabi, stopping for a bite to eat in Al Dar Sweets before heading back.

Take a look at our vlog to see how he got on and maybe you will catch a ride next time, instead of hailing a taxi.
