Nobody likes seeing bits of plastic floating in the sea or hearing about the damage our waste is doing to the oceans, so isn’t it about time we did something about it?

Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort is hosting an organised swimming race called Swim for Clean Seas, and encouraging all Abu Dhabi residents to get involved and help stop plastic pollution.

The swimming distances cover 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,600m, and the event is also designed to educate us in how we can do our bit to keep the seas clean.

Marine conservation organisation Azraq will be giving an illuminating talk filled with facts and figures which explain how we can reduce the impact of plastic pollution in our seas.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s resident Marine Biologist Emily Armstrong will be hosting a workshop that lets visitors learn more about the wildlife found in the waters surrounding Saadiyat Island.

The family-friendly event will feature fun activities, stalls and refreshments, and it will all be concluded with an awards ceremony.

As far as swimming locations go, the bright blue waters of Saadiyat Island is pretty hard to beat.

So what are you waiting for? Dig out your swimming goggles and do some in exercise in aid of cleaner seas.

Whether you’re swimming 200m or 1,600m, it all makes a difference.
