UAE's first firework contest is coming to Abu Dhabi

We love a bit of competitive spirit here in Abu Dhabi, and there's an explosive event on the horizon.

Next Friday (March 15) will see the Corniche skies light up in the first round of the Mother of The Nation Festival firework contest, which will see four teams battle it out over the course of two weekends to be named champions.

The first display on Friday March 15 will see Team Canada display their Boom Boom Pow show at 8.15pm and then again at 10.30pm.

The following week (Saturday March 16, 8.15pm and 10.30pm) will see Team Netherlands going all out with their Royal Fireworks show, before Team South Korea fight back with their Bisabeol Fireworks display on Friday March 22 (8.15pm and 9.45pm).

The final show, titled Xplosiv Art, comes from our friends down under, and Team Australia will complete what will have been 120 minutes of spectacular illuminations.

The winning pyrotechnic team will be presented with the inaugural winner’s trophy from Mother of the Nation Festival organisers – and go down in Abu Dhabi history as the best at fireworks, ever (or for 2019 at least).

Each of the displays will be assessed on five key factors - spatial occupation, defined by how the choreography fills the skies, originality of the display, in terms of patterns, designs and shapes, use of colour, with extra marks awarded for elegance and blending in with the surroundings, pace, which considers the tempo and synchronization with music, and acceptance, that gauges the audience reaction to the display.

The Mother of the Nation Festival will take place at A'l Bahar on the Corniche from Tuesday March 12 until Saturday March 23 March, and will be jam-packed with performances, workshops and shops.

We can’t wait to be dazzled.
