Watch the Red Bull Air Race in Abu Dhabi this weekend

It’s been a couple of months since the last huge racing event took over Abu Dhabi, and we’re excited to witness some more adrenaline-fuelled (and very noisy) action this weekend.

The 2019 Red Bull Air Race season is opening in the capital for the 12th year in a row, and it’s set to be an amazing display.

Crowds can watch 14 of the best pilots in the world race across the Abu Dhabi skyline on February 8 and 9, sometimes reaching speeds of up to 370km per hour and flying only metres above the glittering blue waters of the Arabian Gulf.

This is a competition that requires incredible levels of speed, precision and skill.

The qualifying competitions take place on Friday, before 26 pilots from 17 different countries partake in Race Day on Saturday.

The three, super-intense rounds see the pilots race over the Corniche, determining who wins the Master Class and

Challenger Class. The action starts at 12.30pm and finishes at 6pm, after the awards ceremony.

The line-up includes four previous Abu Dhabi race winners: Michael Goulian of the USA (2018), Martin Šonka of the Czech Republic (2017), Nicolas Ivanoff of France (2016) and Kirby Chambliss of the USA (2006).

You can find out more about the timings and details of the day at, you can also book special packages to watch the race at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi.

We’ll be on the edge of our seats as we watch the planes hurtle across the sky at lightning speed. You won’t want to miss it.

Prices vary. Feb 8, 11.30am-6pm; Feb 9, 12.30pm-6pm. Abu Dhabi Corniche
