Long gone are the days when shopping malls were just places to pick up a new outfit, have a coffee and go home.
Now you’ll find malls with some incredible fine-dining venues, seven-star luxury cinema screens and interactive events that bring the mall to life and make you want to linger for a full day.
Nowhere is this more evident than at The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi, which has its own high-end collection of restaurants, The Hub; Novo Cinemas, which offers butler service and gourmet meals; and a brilliant range of pop-up events throughout the year.
As well as the Time Out favourites and award-winners at The Hub (Tamba, BU!, Back Yard Bistro, Original Fusion and Jazz@PizzaExpress) there’s a load of more casual places to eat, including the recently-opened The Surf Café, Pancake House and Sugar Factory, and the likes of Taqado, Bagel Factory and Shake Shack for quicker bites.
Now, in partnership with Time Out Abu Dhabi, The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi is launching two new foodie experiences, designed to give, well, a taster of the wide variety of cuisines available at the 45 places to eat inside.
The first one is Street Food Fest, from December 14 to 29, which you can read all about here.
The second is Dine Around The Hub, a foodie festival that will transport you across the world in just a few bites.
With an array of Time Out award-winning restaurants and bars inside, The Hub can lay a decent claim to being the capital’s foremost culinary hotspot.
Part of the mall, but accessible via its own entrance, The Hub has three floors of venues that regularly make it on to year-end ‘Best Of’ lists.
Inventive venue Tamba is our reigning Best Indian restaurant, BU! was Best Newcomer in its debut year of 2016 and has won Highly Commended plaques at our Music & Nightlife awards and Restaurant Awards since then, Back Yard Bistro was in the running for the 2018 Best Newcomer Award, Original Fusion was a Highly Commended Best Newcomer in its first year and Jazz@PizzaExpress has previously landed gongs for being family-friendly and for its super-fun brunch.
Tamba’s blend of Indian-inspired cuisine and slick, lounge-like interior, complete with huge copper bells, has been a favourite ever since opening, but it’s a venue that seems to get better with age.
As well as the brilliant food, there’s also an excellent bar area, with innovative mixed drinks and a beautiful terrace perfect for this time of year.
Latin American hotspot BU!, meanwhile serves an intriguing mix of Asian and South American flavours and dishes. The venue has three distinct spaces – dining room, bar and terrace, and all of them are ace.
Jazz@PizzaExpress blends crowd-pleasing pizza and pasta with live music; lounge and eatery Original Fusion serves up a creative mix of cuisines, whileBack Yard Bistro offers a buzzy, North American bar vibe and plenty of on-trend industrial design touches.
Usually, eating at each of The Hub’s eateries would require five separate visits, but for one night only, Time Out Abu Dhabi is bringing the restaurants together for a specially curated dining experience that will see a select group of guests invited to sample a tasting menu in each – complete with chef explanations and drink pairings – and you could be part of that group.
To be in with a chance of joining the Dine Around The Hub experience, send a DM to our Instagram account (@timeoutabudhabi) and a select group will be asked to join the VIP guests.
Tue Dec 18. From 7.30pm. The Hub, The Mall at World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi.
