No need to be spooked by these ghastly gatherings

Halloween in Abu Dhabi 2018: Eight ghoulish ways to celebrate

It’s the one time of year you can dress up as a ghost, a zombie or, erm, Super Mario and nobody blinks an eyelid.

So it’s no wonder Halloween is one of the most popular fixtures in Abu Dhabi’s calendar.

There’s nothing ghoulish about our love for the spook-fest.

And some of the capital’s best venues are really getting into the spirit of things this year.

From spine-tingling soirees to blood-curdling brunches, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s a few of our favourites.

Rags to riches at Aloft Abu Dhabi

There’s a lot of cool things we could do with Dhs5000.

That’s the prize on offer to the winner of a mega fancy dress costume competition at Aloft Abu Dhabi’s Splash Garden on October 26.

Dress up in the scariest, most chilling outfits you can get your hands on to be in with a shot at scooping the big prize (and bragging rights among your friends).

The twisted tunes will be provided by no fewer than seven DJs plus a special guest act as partygoers enjoy one of the capital’s slickest outdoor venues.

Dhs100 (early bird tickets before October 21), Dhs130 (general entry). October 26 8pm-3am. Aloft Abu Dhabi Hotel, ADNEC Exhibition Centre, Khaleej Al Arabi Street (02 654 5000).

Salsa Bash at Anantara Eastern Mangroves

The plush hotel’s Ingredients eatery is throwing a fun-filled Halloween Friday brunch which is sure to be popular with families.

DJ Crazy Joe will be spinning the latest Latin music during a brunch packed full of entertainment, including face painting, piñata and balloon sculpting on October 26.

The party will carry on in the pool deck with awesome tunes played all day and an exciting games booth for youngsters.

But don’t forget to dress in your spookiest costume for a chance of winning one of three prizes up for grabs at the costume contest.

From Dhs276 (soft drinks). October 26 12.30pm-4pm. Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara, Al Salam Street (02 656 1166).

Say boo to BU!

Surely the most appropriately named venue this Halloween, no?

But there’s no reason to be scared of this haunting hangout at The Hub at World Trade Centre Mall.

The terrifying theme this year is Horror at Hotel del Salto, where BU! uncovers the story behind the murders and disappearances of residents of a spooky 90-year-old hotel in Bogota, Columbia, which many claim is haunted by demons.

Staff will be dressed up as demons and mysterious ghosts playing their roles as various Hotel del Salto staff, including the butler, butcher, doorman, bellboy and chamber maid.

No tombstone is left unturned in creating a glamorous and grotesque, disturbing and diabolical, surreal and supernatural, reflection of the undead.

From Dhs260. November 1 8pm-1am. The Hub at World Trade Centre Mall, Al Markaziya (02 666 8066).

Beastly bash at Level Lounge

This popular Abu Dhabi sundowner spot is embracing Halloween in all its glory with a ghoulish gathering on November 1.

There’s plenty of incentive to dress to impress as those with the spookiest costume get free entry for the night.

Your knees won’t be the only thing wobbling with fear as jello shots will be on sale for Dhs15 each.

Ladies get free entry, while fellas will have to stump up Dhs130 for entrance, which includes two house beverages.

Dhs130 (gents). November 1 10pm-2am. Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street (02 616 6800).

Ladies’ Night at Loca

Al Maryah Island hotspot Loca is going big for Halloween with a bumper line-up of fun and festivities.

The celebration falls on ladies’ night, so it will be twice as nice at one of the capital’s most popular Mexican hangouts.

We crowned this place our best ladies’ night in Abu Dhabi at our recent Time Out Abu Dhabi Music and Nightlife Awards, so you know it will be epic.

Partygoers can expect colourful displays, extravagant decorations, animated entertainment, delicious dishes, free-flowing mixed beverages and banging tunes from the DJ.

While ladies will be treated to free Mexican mixed drinks all night long.

Prizes are on offer to the best fancy dress costumes so get your thinking caps on.

Prices vary. October 31 7pm-2am. The Galleria, Al Maryah Island (02 582 3639).

Stylish brunch at Nahaam

If you want to celebrate Halloween with a bit of sophistication and class, look no further than this elegant offering.

The ultra-chic Nahaam, in Jumeirah At Etihad Towers, is throwing a buzzing bash to remember on October 26, with pool access included in the price.

Enjoy an American-themed celebration with delightfully spooky dishes as well as the usual mouth-watering bites which make this place a capital favourite.

This poolside eatery will surely be a great place to make the most of the cooler temperatures with its stunning terrace area with some banging tunes and a party vibe.

As our American music heroes The Backstreet Boys once sang: “Everybody, rock your body”.

Wise words indeed.

Dhs375 (soft drinks), Dhs450 (hops and grapes), Dhs550 (bubbles). October 26 12.30pm-4pm. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, West Corniche (02 811 5666).

Haunting Halloween at The Village

This Le Meridien hotspot loves Halloween so much it’s throwing not one, but two big parties to celebrate.

The fun begins on October 31, when the garden will be filled with spooky creatures, customised mixed drinks and live music from Once Duo.

Halloween mixed drinks will be Dhs25 each, while guests are asked to don their most ghostly garments for the costume competition.

The action kicks off again on November 2 for a beastly brunch for all the family, with live cooking stations, international dishes and a Halloween-themed desserts station.

A magnificent magic show will keep the youngsters entertained before the after-brunch party resumes in the garden once more with another costume competition and bumper prizes.

Halloween night – free. October 31 7pm-late.Brunch – Dhs249 (soft drinks), 349 (beverages), Dhs389 (bubbly). November 2 1pm-4pm. Le Meridien Abu Dhabi, Tourist Club Area (02 644 6666).

Pirate party at Yas Waterworld

A pesky posse of pirates invading Yas Waterworld would usually be considered a bad thing, we reckon.

But not at Halloween, when the Yas Island hotspot will be welcoming them with open arms for Dana’s Spooktacular, an epic day of family fun.

On October 26, the park will transform into a ‘Pirates Candy Cove’– a nautical adventure featuring a string of spooky characters, dastardly bandits and ghostly pirates.

The action kicks off at 10am, with a string of special features planned alongside the park’s usual attractions.

Then from 6pm onwards, families are encouraged to dress-up for the costume parade, search for sweet treats and treasure and take part in other exciting games.

There’ll also be a host of delicious snacks and eerie eats, acrobatic performances and even a pirate university where young swashbucklers can learn the trade from the best.

From Dhs250 (general admission). October 26 10am-10pm. Yas Island (600 511115)
