Best things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend, August 30 - September 1

The end of another Abu Dhabi week is here.

It’s been a busy one for most of us, especially after such a relaxing break over Eid Al Adha.

But now thoughts are starting to turn towards the weekend (and when the next public holiday is).

Thankfully, there’s plenty of things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend to keep us occupied.

Here’s a few of our favourites.

Check out Yas Gaming Festival

This fun event has been going on in Yas Mall since last week and has proved very popular so far.

Running every day from 10am to 10pm at Yas Mall’s Town Square, Yas Gaming Festival combines cosplay, fun multi-player tournaments, retro arcades, e-sports and virtual reality, inviting players of all ages to game together and put their skills to the test.

And this weekend, the action is being taken up a notch.

Fans will enjoy the exclusive UAE launch of popular video games Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 (PES 2019) and Naruto to Baruto: Shinobi Striker.

From Thursday August 30 and throughout the weekend, visitors will be given the incredible opportunity to play these amazing new games for the first time in the UAE.

And on Friday at 4pm, there will be an insightful educational panel, with input from regional experts discussing how parents can help manage their children’s gaming.

Free. 10am-10pm. Town Square, Yas Mall, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Grab lunch with a view at Buddha-Bar Beach Abu Dhabi

The ultra-glamorous Buddha-Bar Beach Abu Dhabi has set its sights on being the place to be seen as the sweltering temperatures start to cool down.

And with a stunning outdoor terrace and a string of promotions over the next few months, we reckon it will be an exciting end to the year at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort hotspot.

You can grab a two-course set menu feast for Dhs120, or if you’re extra hungry go for the three-course set menu option at Dhs150.

Signature dishes include the likes of Wagyu rib-eye steak and a delicious Buddha-Bar Chicken Salad.

Dhs120 (two-course lunch), Dhs150 (three-course lunch). Thu-Sun 12pm-3pm. Buddha-Bar Beach Abu Dhabi, The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi (02 498 8888).

Funch’s new home at Stars ’N’ Bars

The award-winning Funch brunch has relaunched in a new home.

Last week saw it kickstart the new season at Stars ‘N’ Bars on Yas Island and it was one humdinger of a party.

Expect all the usual buzz of activities, including free-flowing drinks, party games and cracking live entertainment, with the awesome International Playboys making a star appearance.

This is a real celebration of all the best American cuisine, so make sure you arrive hungry.

Dhs275 (house drinks). Fri noon-4pm. Yas Marina, Yas Island (02 565 0101).

Catch a movie at Cinema Space Abu Dhabi

Cinema Space Abu Dhabi, an entirely voluntary scheme which showcases some amazing movies at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island, has got a treat for you this weekend.

It’s hosting a screening of the highly acclaimed Oscar winner The Shape of Water – and it’s entirely free to attend.

The initiative sees a handful of movie screenings held each month, from all-time classics to modern blockbusters, and we definitely recommend you checking it out.

Just make sure you register beforehand.

Free. Sept 1 7pm. Manarat Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi.

Light up your weekend with Yas Waterworld

Every Friday night since August 17, the park is being lit up in neon and bringing together a mix of music and activities with neon vibes throughout the park.

Guests will experience the UAE’s only neon river, dance to the beats of the new silent neon disco, and capture fun moments with a neon-themed photo-booth.

And if that wasn’t enough, Yas Waterworld is bringing back the fun-packed Hydrojet Action Show.

Guests are also invited to enjoy a neon-themed buffet that promises to engage all of the senses.

From August 17 until September 21, the park will extend its operating hours to 10pm every Friday for the after-dark experience.
