How is it the middle of August already?
This summer seems to be flying by (thankfully, we can hear you cry).
It’s been another busy week in Abu Dhabi, with plenty of news and deals to keep you occupied.
And so approaches another busy weekend in the capital.
There’s plenty of cool things to do, see and eat on our doorstep (not literally) this weekend.
Here’s a few of our top tips.
Welcome the weekend at Ray’s Bar
Take your Thursday night to new heights (literally) at one of Abu Dhabi’s plushest hangout spots.
A visit to swanky Ray’s Bar could be the high point of your weekend – and not just because it’s perched up on the 62nd floor of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.
Ladies can bag a bargain three drinks and platter.
Dhs65. Thu 8pm-2am. Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, West Corniche (02 811 5666).
Catch the awesome ‘Wings of Mexico’ display
A stunning sculpture created by the well-known Mexican artist Jorge Marin has arrived in Abu Dhabi – and you can go and see it.
Created in 2010, it aims to embody the hopes and dreams of the Central American nation’s citizens, at the same time as promoting Mexico’s image and artistic output worldwide.
Its striking design consists of two wings of bronze, which are placed on an iron frame above three steps of concrete.
And Abu Dhabi residents can see it up close and personal as it’s on display here until October 31.
It was brought here in a joint effort by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Manarat Al Saadiyat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AMEXCID), The Embassy of Mexico and the Foundation Jorge Marin.
Having visited Kuwait, Egypt, Singapore, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Bangkok, the impressive sculpture is now to be housed in Abu Dhabi’s cultural hub, Manarat Al Saadiyat, in Saadiyat’s Cultural District.
Friday night fever at Empire Yas Bar
The weekend at Empire brings Pandora, an immersive experience of visual enchantment, with glowing paint and dance entertainment alongside the electrical beats of DJ Jay.
Visit the award-winning venue on Yas Island for free.
Plus, any Etihad staff can enjoy 20 percent off drinks, too.

Grab a bargain feast at 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant
One of Abu Dhabi’s biggest sushi hotspots is throwing an unmissable two-for-one brunch offer this month.
Former Time Out Abu Dhabi award-winner 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant is celebrating Koyo season this August with a bumper giveaway.
Bring a mate to the swanky eatery’s Zeitaku Brunch and the pair of you can eat for the price of one brunch.
The brunch offer is available every Saturday until August 25.
99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, based in The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, was named Best Newcomer at the Time Out Abu Dhabi Restaurant Awards 2017.
We definitely recommend checking it out.

Win the race to space at Du Forum
If you dreamed about becoming an astronaut growing up, you’ll love this awesome event in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Test your skills and see if you have what it takes to win the race to space at the SatGames Obstacle Challenge at Du Forum on Yas Island.
The race mimics the launch journey of a satellite to space as teams of three members each battle to assemble a satellite model, mount it on a rocket, and launch the model to safely reach its orbit before their rivals.
The journey will involve racing through a series of exciting challenges, including passing through ramp slides, overcoming foam blocks, climbing walls, using tunnels and swinging from one end to the other using slingshots.
The prize includes an opportunity to visit John F. Kennedy Space Center as a part of a five days, all-expense paid trip to Florida.
Registration starts at 2.30 pm on Saturday and the first race starts at 4.00 pm, with each game lasting around 10 to 15 minutes.
All members of the community are invited to take part in the challenge and can register online through www.journeyofpride.com.
