Best things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend, July 19-21

Foodie feasts, Chinese celebrations, splash-tastic fun and more.

Things to do, China, Brunch, Aquafun, Mad on yas

The end of another busy week in Abu Dhabi is almost upon us.

The temperatures have been a little on the high side this week and many of us will be looking forward to a chilled weekend.

But that doesn't mean it has to be a boring one stuck indoors with your face glued to the air conditioning unit.

There are still plenty of ways to enjoy a great weekend in the capital.

Here are a few of our favourites.

Welcome the weekend at MAD

This Yas Island hotspot is always a good shout for a great night out and this weekend is no different.

In fact, they’ve lined up one of France’s hottest properties to kick off the weekend in style.

The Congolese-born rapper Maitre Gims is the special guest at this week’s URBN club night on Thursday and it promises to be a show to remember.

While he might not be a household name to some people, he boasts almost 7 million fans on Facebook so you can be sure of his star quality.

It’s a free bar for ladies as always, so there’s no excuse not to head down.

July 19, 11pm-3.30am. MAD on Yas Island (05 583 46262)

Celebrate Chinese culture at Manarat Al Saadiyat

China’s president, Xi Jinping, is in Abu Dhabi for a series of high level meetings with UAE officials to strengthen ties between the two nations.

And to celebrate, the capital is marking UAE-China week, which involves a string of great events to celebrate Chinese culture.

Manarat Al Saadiyat is the place to be this weekend for those who want to get into the spirit.

They have set up a special pavilion dedicated to a range of great events and showcases, which run until July 24.

One of those is a stunning painting featuring the UAE's Qasr and Al Hosni and Chinese landmark Tiananmen Square.

The artwork is a collaboration between Chinese artist and teacher Jack Lee and Emirati calligrapher Mohammed Mandi and is truly a beautiful expression of the great relationship between the two nations.

There are also a range of great displays, including a traditional Chinese dragon dance and an incredible tea-pouring show by a Kung Fu tea master.

July 17-24, 9am-8pm. Manarat Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi (02 657 5800)

Enjoy a summer brunch

It’s that time of the year when some venues in Abu Dhabi reduce their offerings as a number of people in the capital leave for the summer.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t still a range of awesome summer brunches to be enjoyed.

From an international feast at Ingredients to a brand new offering at Stars ‘N’ Bars, there are plenty of foodie feasts to be enjoyed.

Here are nine of our favourites.

Make a splash at AquaFun

The Aquafun inflatable waterpark at the A’l Bahar development in Abu Dhabi’s Corniche is a whole lot of fun.

The 84-piece obstacle course with loads of steps, slides ramps and bridges and sits just off the coast.

And now that summer has Abu Dhabi in its grip, it's a good way to cool off.

Anyone from the age of five upwards can go on the inflatable, which opens from 9am to 6.30pm every day and can accommodate up to 250 people at a time.

The safety conscious needn’t worry, either, as there are up to seven lifeguards on duty at any one time.

It’s Dhs100 for an hour, or Dhs150 for a day pass.

There are discounts if there are five or more of you, too.

Check out our vlog below to have a look at what’s on offer.

Open daily 9am-6.30pm. A’l Bahar, Corniche.
