It seemed such a good idea at the end of last year, didn’t it? The New Year’s Resolution was made and this time nothing would stop you reaching your goal – 2018 was the year you were going to get fighting fit.
Now, some of you may remain as resolute as ever, and for that we applaud you, but many of us need an extra push
to stay on course as the year takes shape. Thankfully, Cycle for Health UAE is ready to ride to the rescue.
The capital’s leading community cycling initiative has a ‘wheely’ good way of ensuring your health dreams don’t fizzle out as quick as a New Year’s Eve firework – and it won’t even cost you a single dirham to get involved.
The monthly event, organised by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and the Department of Health, will be returning to Zayed Sports City Stadium on Saturday, January 27 and sporty types are being urged to get on their bike, or just use the set of wheels provided.
Visitors can borrow bikes and helmets and cycle through the 1.9km course for free.
The scheme is a great way to pedal your way to a healthier way of life in a safe and controlled environment, away from the hustle and bustle of traffic-filled roads.
Individual coaching and riding sessions are available for children and those who are less confident riding a bike.
Cycle For Health also lays on plenty of fun and games, including a bouncy castle for the kids and healthy food trucks to help fuel you for the calorie-burning pursuits on the day.
Free parking is also provided at Zayed Sports City Stadium, giving residents even more incentive to get there and ride on two wheels.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi say that cycling can help reduce the risk of diseases as well as being a fun way to keep active. A spokesperson says: “Cycling is a fun and healthy way to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
“The UAE offers an ideal climate and terrain for this activity, which has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. As part of its commitment to promoting wellness and encouraging healthy lifestyles throughout Abu Dhabi and the wider region, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Cycle for Health UAE initiative offers UAE residents more opportunities to pursue this hobby.”
Cycle for Health UAE is held at Zayed Sports City on the final Saturday of the month, running from September through to April, from 8am to 1pm.
All ages and abilities are invited to take part in the event, which is a great way to keep active week after week while Cleveland Clinic will also be offering free fitness activities during the year at Yas Marina Circuit.
