Serena Williams makes tennis comeback in Abu Dhabi

Star added to Mubadala World Tennis Championships line-up

Tennis superstar Serena Williams is making her return to tennis in Abu Dhabi.

The multiple Grand Slam champion will appear at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships at 5pm on Saturday, December 30.

The exhibition match against Latvian Jelena Ostapenko will be the first ladies' match ever played at the event.
Ostapenko is current French Open champion, while Williams has been out of the game since becoming a mother.

Williams said: “I am delighted to be returning to the court in Abu Dhabi for the first time since the birth of my daughter in September.

“The Mubadala World Tennis Championship has long marked the beginning of the men’s global tennis season and I am excited and honoured to be making my comeback as part of the first women to participate in the event. I look forward to seeing the fans in Abu Dhabi at the tenth edition of the Championship very soon.”

Ostapenko is number seven in the world rankings and has never played Williams professionally.
