Get ready for the Year of Zayed Run

Event will take place across all seven UAE emirates

A new seven-emirates run will take place in 2018 to mark the Year of Zayed.

Next year is dedicated to the UAE’s founding father His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan.
To commemorate Sheikh Zayed’s act of passing the torch of unity across the seven emirates, the UAE Athletics Federation (UAEAF) has announced the new event.

Residents and UAE citizens can all take part in the 5km runs, which will pass landmarks in each emirate.
After the race, those taking part can enjoy day-long celebrations in fan villages.

“We are delighted to announce this nationwide event that will congregate residents in each emirate on a single day to run, jog or walk alongside family and friends,” says Ahmed Kamali, president UAE Athletic Federation.

“The event will be a public tribute commemorating the exemplary leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who laid the foundation for one of the most ambitious and progressive Arab nations in the world.

“I invite all businesses, family and friends to come out and join us for such an auspicious event.

“The inter-emirate run will further support the country’s happiness, health and fitness agenda besides being a nation-wide event that amplifies the solidarity and unity of the UAE.”

Harmeek Singh, founder and chairman of Plan b Group, the organisers of the event adds, “The responsibility of planning and organizing a tribute to honour the Father of the Nation is the biggest honour in its own right.

“The event will certainly be a patriotic highlight of 2018 and we invite all residents of the UAE to come and display their love for the man who made the union possible.”

The date, time and venues for the various races have yet to be announced. Watch this space for more.
