Abu Dhabi is in for an exciting 12 months as Yas Marina Circuit (YMC) announces its 2017-18 calendar, and there are over 400 events and activities planned.
Parts of the circuit are looking better than ever following a revamp ahead of the 2017 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 23 to 26. As well as hosting the season-ending F1 race, there will be plenty of events off the track - ticket-holders can enjoy an exciting schedule of after-race concerts, with headliners so far announced as P!NK, Calvin Harris and Mumford and Sons, as well as free access to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Water World.
The circuit’s weekly cycling, running and walking events, StartYAS, TrainYAS and GoYas by Daman’s ActiveLife, have also undergone a bit of a makeover. A new health and fitness village includes 600 free-to-use bikes, a food and beverage area and free WiFi.
In March, cycling fans will have a chance to ride against two-time Olympic gold medal-winning road racer Fabian Cancellara.
Yas KartZone is set to re-open on October 13, unveiling a fleet of 32 new karts, a revamped track and upgraded facilities. To celebrate the occasion, Yas Marina Circuit is inviting fans down for free trials between 2pm and 9.30pm on Friday 13 and Saturday 14.
Early next year, KartZone will host the Yas Marina Circuit Karting Enduro on January 5, 2018 and the UAE Rotax Max Challenge on March 8 and 9, 2018.
Other events to look forward to include the second season of the FIA-accredited Formula 4 UAE Championship, helping aspiring talent gain valuable on-track experience.
The TRD 88 Cup, a sustainable local motor initiative that enables amateur racers to drive in a professional and competitive environment, will also return. As will the Middle East Radical Cup, Formula Gulf Academy, NGK Racing Series, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and UAE Time Attack.
Next February, triathlon TriYAS by ActiveLife Daman will put Abu Dhabiites to the test, with a new Super Sprint category to encourage first-timers and kids to join in.
Following hot on its heels is road cycling stage race, the Abu Dhabi Tour, with its final stage taking place on February 25, 2018.
In the first week of March, the capital will also host the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi, and later that month it will host the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics Abu Dhabi 2018 MENA Region Games.
Athletes competing in the Special Olympics will also use the circuit as the official training ground ahead of the games.
Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit, said: “Yas Marina Circuit is consistently adding to its annual events calendar with the biggest and best activities and programmes that provide the foundations for the circuit’s multi-purpose role in the community”.
