Four running spots to help you get back on track

The temperature is beginning to cool, so it’s about time you took your run back outside

We’re nearly there folks. It’s only a matter of a few more weeks before the summer heat recedes and the glorious winter sun comes out to play. So, make sure you make the most of the cooler climes and head outdoors for a run (or a walk). It’s a great way to keep fit, admire the city and enjoy the great weather over the winter. Here are four running spots scattered across the city for you to conquer.

Al Raha
If you’re looking to break away from the leisure pacers and dog walkers downtown, the 4km canal road out at Al Raha is your spot. Set off at Al Zeina, as you work your way past Al Muneer before finishing up near the Spinney’s on Al Bandar – also handy in case you need to stock up on groceries.

No matter what time you go – morning, noon or night – there is something quite magical about running alongside the glistening Arabian Gulf. This 8km paved stretch is dotted with food outlets and toilets making it a convenient option. There’s also plenty of parking if you need to drive there. And while there is a dedicated track (and one for cyclists), serious runners can increase the difficulty level and run on the beach itself.

Yas Marina Circuit

If you run better in packs, Abu Dhabi’s stunning 5.5km Formula 1 track is the place to be every Tuesday evening. StartYAS, TrainYAS and GoYAS are free community events. All you need to do is register online. Cyclists roll down the centre of the track as runners keep to their lanes on the side. Water is handed out by the team at the track and there are medical teams on standby. Wednesdays are for ladies only.
Free. Every Sun, Tue and Wed, 6pm-10pm. Yas Island.

Zayed Sports City

Pounding the pavements around Abu Dhabi’s sporting centre is a great way to unwind after a day at work. While there’s no dedicated track, there are paths to run along and streetlights to guide the way.
Zayed Sports City (02 403 4200).
