Spartan Race 2020 taking place at Jebel Jais for first time

You know what the say: New Year, new you. And now a new location, as the extremely tough (but hugely fun) Spartan Race 2020 is setting up in Jebel Jais.

For the first time in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the world’s hardest and most popular obstacle races is taking place at the UAE’s highest peak. Good luck climbing that, Spartans.

Taking place on January 31, 2020 from 7am onwards, the big course will be divided into various race categories, including the Sprint, Super, Hurricane Heat and one just for the kids.

The Spartan Super Sprint will be set over 5km, with 20 of the race’s signature obstacles to conquer. Perfect for runners of any levels, it may be the shortest, but packs the most obstacles to overcome.

As for the Spartan Super, expect a 10km distance with more than 25 Signature Spartan Obstacles, all through tougher and more rugged terrain.

Up for a whirlwind of exercise? The Hurricane Heat is a unique event, which sees Spartans running on and off the race course. Participants will be assigned a team upon arrival and will be expected to work together to complete any and all challenges set before them.

Team work pays off, as you can't finish alone. There are no timing chips, no clock, just a fun run Spartan-style. And Burpees, lots of burpees apparently. Must be 18 or older to participate.

Finally, there’s the course for the Spartan Kids course for little ones aged four to 14. With a distance of us to 3.4km and up to 14 obstacles to get around, kids are expected to jump, run and get muddy.

It’s kicing off on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, and if you’re looking to get involved, visit www.spartanarabia.com and get yourself signed up.

If you’re after another course to get you all limbered up before the 2020 race, get yourself signed up for the Tough Mudder.

Get ready for the muck.
Prices vary. Jan 31, 2020, 7am onwards. Jebel Jais Mountain, Ras Al Khaimah, www.spartanarabia.com.
