The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon might not be here for another six months, but you just know that it will come around quickly.
Many who have signed up to take part in the annual race will already have started their training, or at least started thinking about it.
So to help runners properly prepare for the big day, ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon and Abu Dhabi Sports Council have teamed up to put on some free weekly training sessions.
Taking place every Monday from May 6, the workouts will take place on Al Hudayriat Island between 9.30pm and 10.30pm throughout Ramadan.
Then after Eid, the Monday sessions will move to between 6.15am and 7.30am, and a second session will start at Zayed Sports City on Wednesdays from 7.45pm to 9pm, starting on June 5.
The training will be ran by Abu Dhabi Marathon’s official coach, Youssef Rochdi, who is also a member of USA Track & Field Association (USATF) and multiple winner of USATF long-distance championships.
Running for a total of six months, the fitness sessions will include interval training, long-distance runs, drills and more.
Designed to help the participants improve their running, the last one will be held a week before the 42.2km race.
Plus, from September, free coaching will also be introduced for those taking part in the 2.5km fun run, and 5km and 10km races
H.E Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council said: “Last year we welcomed 10,000 runners from all over the world to the inaugural ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, this year we hope to grow that number to 15,000.
Providing these free training sessions is just one example of how we are making the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon more accessible than ever to all members of our community in the capital.”
Abu Dhabi Marathon will take place on Friday December 6 and you can sign up today by visiting www.adnocabudhabimarathon.com.
Entry for the marathon costs Dhs350 and those who sign up before May 31 will recieve a 30 percent discount.
