It’s time to loosen up those shoulders and get practising your swing.

Abu Dhabi’s 2019 golf season is getting ready to kick off with the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open returning to Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.

The tournament will begin on Thursday January 10 and run until Saturday January 12, and will see 2017 champion Aditi Ashok defending her title as British star Charley Hull makes her Abu Dhabi debut.

It’s said to be the strongest filed to date for the FBM Ladies Open, which is the first ever women’s professional golf tournament to be staged in the emirate. And the event will kick off a fortnight of golf in the capital, preceding the Gary Player Invitational (Sunday January 13) and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (Wednesday January 16 until Saturday January 19).

Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the Ladies European Tour (LET) event returns for a third time, with 56 female golfers teeing off. The Open will see Aditi Ashok defend her title against Beth Allen from the USA, who won the inaugural FBM Ladies Open in 2016, Charley Hull, Meghan Maclaren and Florentyna Parker for England, Becky Brewerton and Becky Morgan for Wales, Catriona Matthew for Scotland, Anne Van Dam for The Netherlands, Caroline Hedwall and Jenny Haglund of Sweden and Astrid Vayson De Pradenne and Camille Chevalier for France.

Solheim Cup team members Jodi Ewart Shadoff representing England) and Emily Kristine Pedersen representing Denmark are also on the list to tee off in Abu Dhabi.

Under the new format, 56 professional golfers will join forces with 56 amateurs to form team pairings. While all teams will compete on day one and day two of the tournament, day three will see only the top 15 teams advance for their chance to secure a podium finish.

The top LET Professionals will still battle it out for the FBM Ladies Open individual title, which was won by American golfer, Beth Allen in 2016 and India’s star player, Aditi Ashok in 2017.

We can’t wait to see the action unfold.
