Wakataua Terrace

Time Out Says

Wakataua enjoys the same friendly service and views over the gulf as its sister, Talay, but in a more casual setting. More of a bar than a restaurant, there is no indoor seating – instead tables and chairs are arranged on the small patio area, making it more suitable for evening snacks. The focus is on Asian cuisine, with dim sum, sushi, sashimi and crispy fried treats making up the very short menu. Still, if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy casual snacks with friends, you could do a lot worse. The sashimi is fresh, although choice is limited – only tuna and salmon are served – and presentation is a little unimaginative. More successful are the steamed dim sum, which are stuffed with filling, while the Asian platter is varied, crunchy and not too greasy. While there is nothing particularly dazzling on Wakataua’s menu, the food is fresh and cooked to a decent standard.
