Time Out Says

It can be difficult to keep up with all the new restaurant openings in our vibrant and exciting city.

With such tough competition, it can sometimes be hard for a new outlet to find a niche to make it stand out among the rest.

But Italian restaurant Verso has done all that and more.

In fact there are various reasons why it deserves to win our Best Newcomer award.

We’re not short on places to find amazing Italian food in the capital. Our Best Italian, Villa Toscana excels in exceptional fine dining, but Verso offers something more bright and sunny, and will be challenging for the title next year. Everything from the colourful plates and cups to the authentic Italian cuisine is vibrant and colourful. Muted tones and dim lighting really isn’t its thing The antipasti selection is extra special. The foccacia breads are lighter than air, the salads are filled with the reddest and juiciest  Sicilian tomatoes and we could easily make a full meal out of the extensive cheese selection alone.

If you’re someone who never eats pasta when you’re dining out because you can ‘easily make it at home’, then you need to rethink things.
The steaming plates of fresh pasta at this trendy eatery range from simple yet beautiful combinations such as bucatini with cheese and black pepper, to tagliatelle with a rich lamb sauce.

The pizzas are freshly baked in the open kitchen, and it’s a challenge not to drool at the smell of the soft dough cooking.

The vegetable pizza comes topped with courgettes the same shade as the happy yellow cushions, while other toppings feature fresh shellfish and cured Italian meats.

Further highlights include the spring chicken with vegetables, and the veal with some absolutely delightful polenta.

The dessert counter changes daily. The enormous meringues and extensive spread of pastries immediately grab you, but the traditional tiramasu and pistachio gelato are perhaps the highlights of the incredible collection.

The Saturday brunch contains all the above plus a carving station; it’s a blissful way of spending a lazy afternoon.

We get steadily more and more impressed every time we visit.
