Cheery karaoke joint serving up entry-level Filipino stodge

Time Out Says

Close to half a million Filipino expats are currently living in the UAE, and it seems most of them are spending their Friday nights warbling away the hours at this charmingly tatty karaoke bar. If you can find a table in their midst, the menu – made up mostly of traditional Filipino fare and pizzas – is worth experimenting with, but don’t expect anything more than a timely stomach liner. For those unfamiliar with the much-maligned cuisine of the Philippines, the pancit noodle dishes make for fairly risk-free experimentation, arriving fresh-tasting and in hefty portions.

The pizzas are unfortunately far less appetising, with a floppy, doughy base and over-salty toppings making them taste like something you might pick up at your local supermarket. Still, the regulars seem to enjoy themselves. And if you’re the sort who’s happy enough to belt out My Heart Will Go On to a room full of perfect strangers, we doubt the fact that Tambayan’s food isn’t exactly gourmet will bother you in the slightest.
