Time Out Says
We’re big fans of this sports bar, in Abu Dhabi's Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, we’ll get that out there at the top.
And previously we’ve enjoyed some top food here (the chicken sandwich and fish and chips have served us very well over the years). Indeed, on our last visit a margherita pizza was devoured in no time. It’s disappointing, then, that on this visit our platter of bar snacks doesn’t go down too well.
Service is super, and the choice of drinks is excellent. Great value, too, especially during the daily happy hour.
There’s a couple of us here for a quick drink after work and the sharing platter sings to us from the menu. It’s usually a great choice – no fuss and no decisions, just a variety of deep-fried, juicy beige goodness.
On this occasion it’s hit and miss. Hits include the deep-fried jalepeno poppers (just finish them while they’re hot and can potentially burn your chin) and chicken wings (crispy skin, tangy hot sauce, messy). Misses include the calamari (we’ve had it before and loved it, this time it’s chewy and stringy). In the middle are the crispy prawns, which do the job but don’t knock our socks off.
We’re only in for a casual bite, so it’s not the end of the world, but the platter does leave us wanting a bit more. We’re left reminscing about past glories (if only we could have ordered the Mexican baguette...), but it certainly hasn’t put us off returning.
We’ll be back soon, and when we are, it’s fish and chips and a burger for us. Who likes sharing, anyway?
