Time Out Says
The sweet, the sour, the salty, the spicy. The smells, the flavours, the textures. It’s all there.
When you find a place that does all that right, hold on to it at all costs. We think we’ve found just the spot in Smoking Doll.
Gorgeous venue, friendly staff, amazing food and reasonable prices. In short, we’re big fans.
The extensive menu is packed full of photos of mouth-watering Asian dishes and we want to devour every single one of them. But we can’t, obviously.
The Pla Muek Tord Prik Szechwan (salt and pepper squid, for the uninitiated) catches our eye and we take the plunge.
A decent-sized portion comes nicely spiced with Szechuan pepper, mild chilli and fresh lime, with a tasty, tangy dip to immerse the fried tentacles in. We’re impressed.
For the main event we try Nuea Pad Prik Thai Dum.
The wok-fried steak dish is one of the best things we’ve had in a while.
The black pepper sauce it comes in is so good we’re fighting the urge to lick the plate clean.
We can even ignore the fact there isn’t a lot of meat on the plate as overall, Smoking Doll is really good value.
The bottom line
A delicious, good value, taste of Asia.
