Time Out Says

With Three gYMS all within a few metres of each other, the streets near Al Seef Mall are surely always crawling with health buffs.

Perhaps this is one reason why Sanderson’s, with its ‘mood enhancing’ menu of locally-sourced and freshly-made dishes, chose to set up home here.

The cool hangout certainly ticks all the boxes as an Insta- and hipster-friendly place to eat. We immediately clock the #goodvibesonly notice on the door, and it doesn’t take long before we cave in and take an attempt at an arty interior shot of the trailing vine leaves and hanging wicker baskets.

Aside from the menu of breakfast toasts, ‘cheeky’ treats, healthy bowls, wraps and mains, you can also buy a selection of beach-inspired accessories and homeware. Think wooden sunglasses and pineapple-shaped hooks, it’s all very trendy.

We can’t resist starting with the Miss Mambo smoothie. Containing banana, peanut butter, cashew, cocoa nibs, dates and coconut, it’s basically all the best things in the world blended together in one pineapple-shaped (of course) glass.

We also commend them for the fact that it comes with a metal straw. With such a hippy, eco-friendly vibe, it only makes sense that the eatery is against single-use plastics.

Our food also arrives quickly. The breakfast ‘toast’ is listed as being served on a charred-caraway bun. It’s actually more like a giant croissant, and the combination of the slightly-sweet watermelon compôte, salty lemon-crumbed halloumi and soft poached eggs (cooked to your liking) is absolutely wonderful. For once we’re glad that we were adventurous and resisted our favourite avocado on toast.

We also get the prawn wrap. It’s beautifully presented and served with a zingy Turkish salad, Mexican beans and encased in a seeded taco. There isn’t loads of prawn, but it’s very filling and undoubtedly extremely healthy.

The servers are all wearing straw hats and friendly smiles;  we’re also in high spirits as we leave. We conclude that the good vibes really must be infectious.

We also can’t wait to return and try the lobster benny, beetroot tagliatelle and the many other incredible-sounding dishes.
