Time Out Says
Although parts of Reem Central Park are still under construction when we visit for a lazy weekend breakfast, it’s still a lovely area for a gentle stroll and to grab a bite to eat.
We join the other families and groups of friends sitting on the picnic benches in front of Park House café, and try not to let the passing joggers make us feel guilty as we select our food and drinks.
In fact, most things on the menu can be classed as healthy. The all-day breakfast options include gluten-free blueberry pancakes, yoghurt pots and hot-pressed croissants (OK, so it’s not all totally diet friendly).
There are also sandwiches, burgers and tempting desserts.
We decide to go for a twist on our usual favourite, and order the sweet potato avocado toast. The root vegetable takes the place of the bread, and it is topped with a soft-boiled organic egg, chilli flakes and chia and flax seeds (yes, it is one of those trendy superfood-obsessed type of places). It’s a bit small for Dhs48, but the creamy avocado is wonderful, and we actually prefer it without the usual hard-to-cut big slab of sourdough.
We’ve also gone for a pot of overnight oats, and topped with juicy mixed berries, coconut, more chia seeds (obviously) and manuka honey, it’s far more fancy then anything we could prepare at home.
We finish it off with two excellent cups of strong coffee, and by some miracle resist the homemade banana bread.
