Oriental Korner

Buzzy but sluggish Filipino filling station

Time Out Says

Though the sign above the door declares Oriental Korner’s remit as ‘Chinese and Filipino’, you only need to glance through the window to work out which half of the menu sees the most action. Tables are packed with large Pinoy parties, hungrily slurping away at big bowls of pancit palabok and picking the bones from their adobo, with the constant hum of Tagalog conversation providing a lively atmosphere. Which is just as well, since if you opt for any of the Chinese fare, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the ambience.

The kitchen seems unprepared for the greasier, sweeter preferences of western palates, meaning that while a bowl of Singapore-style noodle may only cost you Dhs20, it’ll also set you back a good 40 minutes. Still, those who go against the grain have little basis for complaint, and if you’re looking to experiment with Filipino grub (the staff are happy to recommend dishes to suit your tastes), this is as good a place as any to satisfy your curiosity.
