Nihal Restaurant

Long-standing Indian restaurant with so-so curries

Time Out Says

If you don’t count India itself, there can’t be many places in the world that offer such an abundance of top-notch curry houses as Abu Dhabi’s Tourist Club area. From the sit-down restaurants to counters serving deep-fried Indian snacks, the prices are low, the flavours spicy and the atmosphere buzzing in all the most popular eateries. Nihal is one of the older Indian restaurants on the block, and still draws quite a crowd despite not quite managing to keep up with its competitors on many of those counts.

The service is enormously warm and chatty, the dishes served promptly and the place has an easy-going, family friendly atmosphere. But the food itself is a bit half-hearted, with low-grade meat, less than fresh ingredients and unimaginative preparation. It’s not the worst place to fill up if you’re hungry, but considering so many better options are just a stone’s throw away, it seems a shame not to opt for one of those instead.
