Namak by Kunal Kapoor
Time Out Says
The capital has its fair share of high-end Indian restaurants and with Namak by Kunal Kapoor, one of the most popular chefs from the subcontinent has brought his unique take on his country’s cuisines to the UAE. We’re grateful that he did.
The dining room is quiet on a midweek night when we arrive but the chilled sitar music and bright décor welcomes us with open arms.
After scoffing a dabeli (compliments of the chef, thank you very much), we’re licking our lips in excitement for what’s to come.
The katifi prawns are excellent – plump and beautifully wrapped in crisp pastry. They are simply a must have. The charred paneer that we soak in mint raita is no slouch either and it quickly disappears, too.
Chicken tikka masala arrives steaming and bubbling, and the sweet-yet-spicy mix goes down a treat with fragrant saffron rice. But the star of the show, falling off the bone after being cooked slowly all day, is the nalli korma lamb shank. It’s so good we want to high five the chef. However, we’re too busy devouring the wonderful garlic naan to congratulate the kitchen staff. Namak is a real gem.
