Mr Miyagi’s

Thai dishes in a colourful setting

Time Out Says

Mr Miyagi’s is still a relatively new addition to the Abu Dhabi restaurant scene. But when we visit on a weekday evening, we are still greeted by a packed-out dining area and lively vibe.

It seems everyone in the capital is desperate to try this Thai eatery. Either that, or the city’s residents just can’t help coming back for more.

We slide into the one remaining free booth, framed by colourful bookshelfs and Thailand-inspired posters, and take in the bright paper umbrellas and pink cherry blossom hanging from the ceiling.

A huge amount of effort has gone into the decorations, and the result is fun, funky and refreshing, especially in a city that so often believes dining rooms should be filled to bursting with dazzling gold and expensive crystal chandeliers.

But everything from the plastic condiment holders, colourful high stools and raucous entertainment  (it’s karaoke night tonight) is really very silly and casual.

We kick off with dynamite shrimp. With a rich and creamy sauce, whole chillis and chunky shellfish, we are practically fighting over the last one.

We also have some light and crunchy Californian rolls. We take a moment to appreciate the ‘I like the way you roll’ sign and other witty mantras on the walls as we munch through them.

For mains we go for some Asian staples. The chicken pad Thai is encased in an eggshell and filled with loads of chicken, salty peanuts and tofu. It’s a generous portion, with lime served on the side to add a sweet and sour kick.

We are also opt for the kung pao chicken, and find that the sweet and sticky saucy goes perfectly with the salty noodles.

It’s filled with crunchy peppers and we eat every last bit of the sticky rice (we even ask for a spoon to help us along).

Every dish is served in a bowl that’s just as colourful as the vibrant surroundings.

The party atmosphere keeps going throughout the night, with regular birthday shout-outs and every table singing along to the karaoke requests.

This isn’t the place for a quiet and relaxing meal, but with great-value Thai street food and good vibes all round, we think it’s one of the best places in Yas Marina.
