Time Out Says

We're big fans of the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi and the terrific restaurants it boasts. The Venetian Village’s Todd English’s Olives is currently our Best European restaurant, The Forge is a steakhouse always in amongst the best in the capital and the breakfast buffet has a cereal bar bold enough to start a countercultural movement.

So, we’re keen to see if modern Lebanese spot Mijana can still hold its own against such high standards. The verdict? Yes.

The restaurant spills out from the lavish five-star hotel interior onto the vast outdoor area overlooking the even bigger swimming pool.

Despite its emptiness, staff aren’t the quickest and our order, somehow, becomes confused. However, when it comes to food, a mezze of moutabel shamander (beetroot hummus), tabbouleh and minced chicken kibbeh only serve as exciting signs of what’s to come. The beetroot hummus is excellent and dotted with crunchy pistachio, while the fresh bread served alongside is softer than pillows.

For mains, we choose the grilled fish fillet and kebab khashkhash (minced meat, chilli paste, nuts, garlic and spicy tomato). The fish is enormous, meaty and marinated with Middle Eastern spices. It’s a big enough to feed a family while the kabab is mouthful after mouthful of joy. The meat has a smokiness from the grill and, just like the fish, there’s plenty of it. We almost forget about the slow service, it’s that good.
