Traditional pub grub, done very well at this Irish favourite

With a jam-packed schedule of weekly entertainment and beverage offerings, it’s no wonder that McGettigan’s has been wildly popular with Abu Dhabi’s expat crowd since it burst onto the nightlife scene in 2014. But this Irish bar has more than just one string to its fiddle – not only is it a great spot for a fun night out, but it also does some mean pub grub that’s worth tucking into.

Take the fish and chips, for example. You’re served a mammoth portion (something we’ve come to expect and embrace in the UAE’s pubs) of perfectly battered dory. On the outside it’s well seasoned, crispy and not overly oily, while the fish within is flaky, juicy and light.

Meanwhile, the big, chunky chips with a splash of vinegar and sprinkling of salt, along with the earthy mushy peas, are also a highlight.

Then there’s the buffalo chicken wrap – another must-try. The chicken is tender and, again, juicy, but it’s the mixture of ranch dressing and buffalo sauce that really gets our tastebuds going. With a side of skinny fries, this dish is seriously hearty.

So, the food is great, there’s plenty of atmosphere and, while it can get packed, there’s enough space in there for it not to be over-crowded. Result.

The bottom line
Traditional pub grub, done very well.
