Time Out Says
First impressions? The drab decor, coral-painted walls and golden fabric aren’t screaming ‘modern dining’ at us. However, new doesn’t always mean better, so we hold off judgement until we try the food. However, the extensive menu is puzzling and the waiter doesn’t doesn’t seem keen on helping us out.
We finally zero in on the mahi tikka achari, a fish tikka marinated with yogurt and spices that pleases the palate. The pickling flavours used in the marinade shine through and complement the flaky fish well.
We mix things up a little for the mains and order an egg biryani. For us, the essentials of a good biryani are an intoxicating aroma and fluffy, individual grains of rice. Sadly, this one misses the mark. A good dose of heat fails to cover up for the lack of flavour. The accompanying raita is thankfully soothing. The kadai mushroom, a tomato-based mushroom dish, continues the spicy theme and has us needing more raita.
Maybe we’re missing something, but not much at Lazeez lives up to the hype.
The bottom line
Family-friendly, but Indian food is done better elsewhere.
