Hickory's Sports Bar
Time Out Says
We arrived expecting simple burgers and sandwiches and instead found Asian classics, poke bowls, gluten-free pasta dishes, burrito bowls and much more (but sadly we only have a picture of a fry-up).
The food is also served in a classy dining room, or out on the terrace overlooking the pretty golf course and blue water beyond.
We’re tempted by so many of the dishes; there are some really inventive combinations and exciting plates.
We go for one of the vegan and gluten-free options, not because we’re trying to be intentionally healthy, but because we just can’t resist the sound of spicy Thai peanut sauce over roasted sweet potatoes, rice, tofu, lentils and cabbage.
The bowl is bursting with colour and fresh flavours and it’s even better in real life than it is on paper. It’s a big portion but we’re still left fighting over the last bits. The peanut sauce and creamy dahl-style lentils are perhaps the highlights, but it’s all brilliant.
We’ve also got a craving for nasi goreng, and we’re more than ready for more incredible peanut sauce. We’re delighted to see that the chicken skewers are coated in it, and the large pile of fragrent rice is filled with plenty of prawns and crunchy veg.
The yolk of the egg is still runny, just as we like it, and the side of prawn crackers is a nice touch, too.
