Delightful Indian dishes in an unassuming mall restaurant

Time Out Says

We have heard excellent things about a small Indian spot in Dalma Mall. Smelling wafts of spice blends and seeing a room full of families digging in on a Saturday afternoon is a very good sign that all we have heard is true.

The menu is vast. Fortunately, our server knows it like the back of his hand. We tell him what we like and he makes suggestions based on our spice preferences.

We order paneer kurkuri, which are basically lightly fried cheese sticks served with chutney and mango pickle. As mains, we order gosht banjara (mutton curry), laal mirch ki machli (hammour curry) and dum subzi handi (vegetable curry) along with some naan bread.

The starter is disappointingly flavourless and even several sauces brought to us can’t fix it.

The mains save the day, packing so much flavour and so many evocative spices that we stop guessing what may be in the sauce. The mutton curry spice blend is like nothing we have tasted before; as is the hammour’s spicy sauce. This is our favourite part about eating at new
Indian spots – the same dish may taste entirely different thanks to each chef’s unique masala mix. The vegetable dish lacks the nuance of the other two, but still tastes fresh.

Our advice: trust your server’s suggestions here and try a new masala. You won’t be disappointed and you may discover something new you love.

The bottom line
Be brave and try something new.
