Many of us experience the same problem when we order tapas – our eyes are too big for our stomachs. You think everything on the menu looks delicious so you order too many dishes while (often wrongly) consoling yourself that the portions will be tiny.
Abu Dhabi’s latest (and only?) tapas and grape joint The Warehouse is in the new Pearl Rotana Capital Centre, and it has found itself packed to the rafters with customers since opening (in fact this is our third attempt to get in, we really should know by now to make a booking).
Walk through the metal-beaded curtain door and you are greeted by a sleek, funky bar and dining area.
The menu is full of modern twists on classic bar bites and tapas dishes – and they’re not stingy with the portions.
Dishes are split into several categories, including flat breads, sliders, meat and cheese boards, and lighter starters.
We begin with avocado hummus, a delicious combination of two Abu Dhabi favourites. We lap it up with crudités and pita crisps.
Sizzling prawns arrive with spicy togarashi mayo, but we hoped they’d have more of a kick to them.
Up next, though, are dishes that convince us The Warehouse is destined to be a hit here in Abu Dhabi.
We tuck in to the tender cheeseburger sliders and crispy truffle fries, and our mind is made up. The smoked duck salad with citrus and toasted peanuts only seals the deal.
Then we make a mistake – ordering two desserts instead of just one. The delicious, huge chocolate fondue and ice cream sundae, could fill at least three.
Reasonable prices, tasty food, big portions and plenty of choice, what’s not to like?
