Every Saturday evening Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill hosts its Saturday Roast – a five-hour affair that encourages you to get dressed in your weekend best and head out for a good, old family meal.
You can say many things about the steakhouse, but cheap certainly isn’t one of them. However, executive chef Ayoub Makdissi thinks the weekly deal is a great way to experience some top-class cooking, service and ingredients in a high-end restaurant from one of the most celebrated chefs of his generation.
It’s not just big families that are enjoying the roast, with couples and groups of friends also taking advantage of the good-value deal.
For Dhs195 you’ll get a lot, beginning with soup and starters. The “salmon” experience is proving very popular. Diners get raw salmon and hot salt to cook it with. You’ll be shown how to do it and told how long it takes to cook it to your liking. If you’re not big on fish, or you can’t be bothered to do any cooking, you can always decide to have beef carpaccio instead.
But, be warned, there is plenty of meat to come. In fact, a trolley will wheel up and down the dining room, and you can choose from roast chicken, lamb cutlets or steak. Or all three if you want, and why not?
There are also plenty of vegetable sides, Yorkshire puddings, gravy, sauces and mushy pies to help you pile your plate high.
There’s dessert at the end, of course, and while we can’t promise it’ll be as good as you grandma’s jam roly poly, it’ll be very good indeed.
Dhs195 (food), Dhs299 (house beverages). Every Sat, 6pm-11pm. Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Khor Al Maqta (02 654 3238).
