Evergreen Vegetarian Restaurant
Time Out Says
Past the bright lights of the Eldorado Cinema on Electra Street and tucked away by the back entrance, Evergreen is one of the cheapest and best Indian restaurants in the nation’s capital. How cheap? TOAD paid Dhs36 for three people to each have two courses. It really is one of the city’s most celebrated bargain bites, although be prepared to leave any snobbish inhibitions at home. The décor is, if we’re being polite, shabby and a bit rundown. But the thing to remember is the food. Huge plates of dosa are available for Dhs5 and make sure you try the bhel puri: a chaat full of hot puffed rice garnished with onions and fresh coriander. Indian friends we’ve taken there swear by it. They also have a fantastic sweet counter by the front door and most visitors will be escorted to the family area upstairs. And in the event that you really enjoy eating at Evergreen Restaurant, you can pay them Dhs430 to eat there twice a day for a whole month.
