Eat Smart

Say hello to Abu Dhabi’s version of healthy eating

Time Out Says

Though this well-presented venue may have all the hallmarks of a European-style organic cafe, it’s not quite as innocent as it’d have you believe. Whizzing blenders, earthy-hued decor and recycled napkins may all be present and correct, but with gigantic portions and few vegetarian options, the menu is disappointingly similar to just about every other Western-style lunch spot in the city. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with Eat Smart’s soups, salads and sandwiches – the majority are actually very good – but given their size and the fact that most come drizzled with something calorific, these eats are far from smart.

There’s a long list of smoothies to choose from if you’re feeling saintly, but otherwise this is ironically one of the heartier cafes in the city. Earned a Thursday treat? Go for the original roast beef sandwich, loaded with inch-thick slabs of well-cooked cow and oozy cheddar cheese. Just pray your dietician doesn’t find out.
