Dino’s Bistro Italiano

Homely Italian that wears its heritage on its walls, tables and everywhere else

Time Out Says

There is absoluely no mistaking that you’re in an Italian restaurant when you’re at Dino’s. Absolutely everything about the decor, music and menu screams of the tricolore.

You know what? We’re fine with it. Dino’s may not be subtle but this restaurant, in the new Pearl Rotana, does everything with its heart on its sleeve.

Service is incredibly friendly, bordering on the cheesy, but just like the venue itself, manages to stay just on the right side of the line.
There’s a bar area for pre- or post-dinner drinks and there’s an unusual and inventive list of mixed drinks, as well as grapes and a few, rather special Italian bottles of hops that we’ve never seen anywhere else.

When it comes to food, the menu is split into antipasti pizza, pasta, salads, soups and mains. A dessert menu includes classics and some over-the-top sharing options and shakes.

We start with cheesy Florentine bread and crispy sticks of courgette.

The bread is amazing, but please don’t think you’ll be able to finish it alone (or make much of dent if you’ve sampled the focaccia in the bread basket). It’s a huge mound of thick-cut bread topped with mountains of oozing cheese and spinach. We wholeheartedly approve of it. The tangle of delicious courgette sticks is another hit.

Our mains also impress,     though the sheer size of the ragu portion is too much to finish. The meat and sauce is incredibly rich, too. The better of the two is the prawn dish. The big, juicy whole prawns (that aren’t too messy to get inside), spicy tomato sauce and wonderfully creamy polenta work so well together.

A classic tiramisu is the perfect dessert, even though we’re too full from the good-value portions that come before.

Consider us impressed.

The bill (for two)

1x crispy courgette Dhs49
1x lamb ragu with penne Dhs70
1x prawns diavolo with polenta Dhs145

The bottom line
A little bit cheesy but there’s a lot to love.
