Time Out Says
With its European members’ club vibe and enforcing a door policy where you’re not allowed in without a collar, Cristal is arguably a place that’s looking to attract a sophisticated and wealthy clientele. We get the impression that a few years ago the venue may have been something of a hotspot for business folk and flashy city types. Unfortunately there’s scant evidence of these customers anymore. Things don’t improve with the below-average food and stuffy atmosphere. Music comes in the form of soft jazz renditions of ’80s pop hits from a CD player rattling away in the corner of the room, while the platters of cheese and sushi are the plated-up equivalent – drab, lifeless imitations of the real thing. Abu Dhabi has upped its standards since Cristal was a credible player in the city’s lounging scene, so we’d recommend investing Dhs5 in a cab ride and checking out nearby rivals instead.
