Now that the weather is basically as good as it gets, Al Bateen is one of our favourite places to chill out in on a sunny afternoon.
Camel Station isn’t quite as busy as some of the other eateries along the marina, but there’s still plenty on the menu (featuring both Emirati and international dishes) to grab our attention.
It’s probably a given that this place serves up several camel-meat dishes (even the menu is presented on a wooden camel head-shaped block), however we can’t quite bring ourselves to order the baby camel salad. So instead we start off with the quinoa and feta option, that’ll play less on our conscience.
It’s a delicious dish featuring chunks of roasted sweet potato, creamy avocado and lot of salty feta. It’s a big portion and all the vegetables are fresh and nicely presented.
Our mains arrively quickly, too. The tiger prawns with jacket potato is perhaps a little on the small side. But the two large crustaceans are pleasantly marinated, while the potato is perfectly cooked and topped with lots of creamy butter and chives.
However, the saffron chicken steals the show. The huge pile of rice is topped with chunks of chicken breast and a mild and fragrant saffron sauce.
The walls are covered in funky pieces of art and there’s a chilled-out vibe that’s complemented by the super-friendly staff.
For fun, Middle Eastern dishes with a modern twist, it’s pretty good indeed.
