Time Out Says

Bubó is a group of bakeries and restaurants in Barcelona specialising in gourmet homemade products, patisserie, pastries and chocolate, and it has come straight from Catalonia to the edge of Khalifa City A.

We head inside to discover the brightly lit, contemporary seating area with a deep blue feature wall. There are no nods to the café’s roots in Barcelona, but instead bright lights and shiny white surfaces. The desserts are clearly the show pieces here, with stretching cabinets showing off exquisite looking cakes.

Before we tuck into any sugary treats, we start by ordering a salmon salad, along with two tapas dishes: grilled prawns and chicken croquets. The menu features a selection of gourmet tapas, soups, salads, a few main courses and homemade Bubó burgers.

Our salmon salad arrives swiftly and is immaculately presented with beetroot, watermelon cubes, mesclun and mustard vinaigrette, however, the cubes of salmon are extremely salty. The grilled prawns are cooked to perfection with a tangy garlic mousseline and lemon confit, while the chicken croquettes are moreish.

For mains, we choose a beautifully presented tenderloin with tonka Catalan cream, glazed shallots and cocoa bean. The textures of the beef with the sweet shallots and subtle coffee flavour is a winner. But the grilled salmon is equally as impressive. Perfectly grilled and paired with vegetable noodles and a coffee sauce, the flavours are unique and rich, yet the dish feels healthy.

Health aside, we can’t leave without trying Bubó’s famous award-winning Xabina cake. It looks stunning and tastes divine. It’s worth coming to Bubó just to try the extensive range of desserts.
