Time Out Says

The first thing you notice as you enter Bord Eau is the gorgeous view. On the other side of the ceiling-to-floor windows sits the majestic Grand Mosque, lit up under the night sky. The Arabian Gulf flows in-between.

The restaurant is intimate and its dining space has the feel of an aristocratic home. The soft French jazz in the background, however, puts you at ease.

The friendly staff are happy to talk you through the menu. It isn’t vast, but, then again, something like that would seem odd in a cosy setting like this.

Those willing to take a chance could opt for the blind tasting – a speciality here. Otherwise, you could play it safe.

The rustic pie is a delightful opener for vegetarians. Filled with a duo of mushroom – cèpes and trumpet – and wilted spinach, it is moist and creamy, without being rich or heavy, and is topped with a flaky, golden brown crust. The chefs at Bord Eau are known for their beautifully-presented plates, with even the humble pie irresistibly garnished.

For meat-eaters, the wagyu striploin practically melts in the mouth. The sweetness from the seared lettuce hearts make them simply moreish. It’s not the most refined-looking plate, but it is an elegant main.

A special spot, for a special ocassion.
