Time Out Says
Anyone who has been to Beirut for an authentic culinary experience won’t be disappointed with the fare at Awtar. There’s no overcooked mixed grill here. Instead, the barbecues are tender and cooked to perfection. And the hot and cold mezzes are also well worth a try. The saj is particularly good, as the bread is soft, fluffy and light with just the right amount of filling, all baked to perfection – certainly one section of the menu not be missed. Desserts are also done well and, occasionally, staff will offer you a free rice pudding to complete your meal. But it’s worth ordering even if you have to pay, as it will leave you feeling pleasantly satisfied after a well-rounded meal. The only minor fault is that while the food spot on, the décor is less than impressive. The centrepiece fountain is a little rundown and the whole venue would benefit from a general spruce up. Still, service is swift and friendly, and staff really make you feel at home.
