But with a well-stocked bar, cosy corners and plenty of light streaming in from outside, there’s plenty to admire about the sleek indoor area, too.
The menu, created by British chef Tom Aikens, includes soups, salads, sharing plates, fish, meats and more. It reads incredibly well, and we start off with the Mediterranean salad (just to properly embrace the theme).
Ribbons of colourful raw courgette are joined by juicy cherry tomatoes, sweet red peppers and creamy feta cheese.It’s simple, but clearly made with the very best ingredients the kitchen can possibly source, and the vegetables are all packed with flavour and goodness.
Next we go for a vibrant green rissotto with kale, spinach, rocket and pecorino.
On paper it sounds like it might be a little bit too healthy (with not much flavour), but in reality it is the opposite. It is just the right amount of rich and creamy, filled with cheese and delicious greens, and scattered with moreish roasted kale and seeds. We scrape the bowl for every last bit.
It goes perfectly with the grilled chicken palliard; another relatively simple dish of soft white meat with olives, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, and more Italian cheese.
We’re having such a good time we don’t want to leave, so we try the rosewater pavlova, which injects a little local flavour into the German classic.
Don’t worry if you’re not usually a huge fan of the ingredient, here it adds just the right amount of flavour to the dish.
We love the different textures in the mountain of hard meringue, soft cream, fig chunks, pomegrante seeds and pistachio, we finish it all off easily.
Perfect for ladies (or gents) who lunch and even better when you can sit outside, Alba Terrace is a super spot for anyone who loves European cuisine.
