Cho Gao Marina Walk
Time Out Says
If you’re as obsessed with everything about Asia as we are, then you’ll love the hanging paper laterns and other Oriental artefacts.
When we sit down in the moodily lit restaurant, we’re feeling chilly from the overly enthusiastic air-con. This is immediately noticed by our very helpful server and soon we are safely wrapped in snuggly shawls.
After a detailed description of the recommended dishes, we start with the vegan-friendly vegetable tempura. Served with a ponzu sauce, the battered asparagus, broccoli and carrot are delightfully crunchy and not at all greasy.
For mains we opt for the mapu tofu. Flavoured with tomatoes, vegetables and a touch of chilli, it’s vibrant, full of interesting flavours and our favourite dish of the evening. The sticky garlic rice is also a big hit, although we do feel like we need to apologise to our taxi driver for the whiff of garlic on the way home.
We also get a huge plate of pad Thai. The chilled-out eatery isn’t stingy with the prawns and tofu, and it’s accompanied by bowls of peanuts, chillis, and even sugar (if you like your noodles to be both sweet and spicy).
The portions are so huge that we ask for a doggy bag, and we can’t resist heading outside to photograph the beautiful scene of the moored boats before heading home.
