Time Out Says

Located at the Sheraton’s resort entrance, Bravo enjoys its own building with indoor and outdoor seating. Its décor leans towards being old-fashioned − the pop of colour you might expect from a Spanish-themed eatery is replaced with the overdone palette of beige and brown.

The staff are friendly and quick to greet us at the door. However, once we’re seated and handed the menus, we’re left to ourselves for well over ten minutes before we’re asked for as much as a drinks order. We end up walking over to tell them we’re ready. Sadly, this isn’t
to be the only time we need to remind the staff to tend to our table.

Tapas occupies the majority of the menu and you will find all the standards such as tortilla de patata tradicional, gambas al ajillo, patatas bravas and a selection of croquettes. The choice also includes grilled skewers and Spain’s most famous rice dish – paella.

Starting with the tapas, the button mushrooms in garlic butter and herbs are a decent vegetarian option. The mushrooms retain a bit of a bite and the butter leaves each piece with a sheen that tempts you back in for more.

Meanwhile, the albondigas (beef meatballs) come coated in a lip-smacking tomato sauce. Although the meatballs are soft, they aren’t very juicy, which is what we really hope for when biting into them. Its thick sauce is a hit, though, and can be mopped up with rolls from the obligatory bread basket.

If you’re willing to venture into the sweet territory, the crème brûlée is a worthy choice. Luscious, creamy and not too sweet, its burnt caramel top cracks with a snap when tapped. It’s a winner with us.

Overall, Bravo doesn’t impress. Maybe a few tweaks and colourful coats of paint will change its fortune.

The bill (for two)

1x cod croquette Dhs36
1x albondigas Dhs40
1x button mushrooms Dhs26
1x crema Catalana Dhs26
1x water Dhs15
Total (including taxes) Dhs171

The bottom line

A decent option for pre-dinner drinks, but the food and service let it down.
