Time Out Says
Say the name of our former award winner to anyone around Abu Dhabi and nine times out of 10 the immediate reaction is “Oh, I absolutely love BU!”.
There’s an awful lot of fuss surrounding this sleek venue and it clearly knows how to attract the the cool crowd.
With exposed light bulbs, geometric patterns and ‘spirit’d’ written in lights on one wall, it’s all very on-trend and basically made for Instagram posts.
The venue is a mix of Latin-American dishes and Far Eastern delicacies, such as sushi and sashimi, taking influence from Peruvian-Japanese Nikkei cuisine.
The tuna ceviche is tasty and beautifully presented in a glass goblet. The soy, sesame oil and lime marinade is divine and there’s almost a sense of desperation in the way we spoon up every last drop.
Sadly, the maki rolls are less of a success. The cream cheese and teriyaki dressing is an odd combination, and it looks far better than it tastes. The chicken and sea bass soft-shell tacos are the stars of the show. Which given the restaurant’s main theme, is the way it should be really.
Full of interesting and colourful fillings, BU! serves perfect sharing food.
The bottom line
Brilliant tacos but avoid the sushi.
