Afternoon tea is all well and good, but most silver salvers here in Abu Dhabi are notably lacking in one key area.

Yes, we love a good cucumber sarnie, and we will never get bored of lathering those scones with jam and cream, but, really we want to eat more chocolate – in all its wondrous forms.

Step forward Rosewood Abu Dhabi , and its remarkable new chocolate-themed afternoon tea at Majlis Lobby Lounge.

Chocoholics will weep at the sprawling dessert station piled high with all things chocolate, artistically crafted and lovingly prepared.

Everything on the 3.5 metre-long table is 100 percent edible – including the plates – and the variety will make you go weak at the knees.

Lose yourself in a chocolate opera cake, delve face first into a chocolate brûlée and throw back chocolate truffles like they’re going out of fashion.

There’s also a chocolate fountain (naturally) just waiting to be pillaged, with home-made marshmallows, fresh fruits and more just begging to be plunged and plunged again.

When the white chocolate cheesecake and chocolate lollipops become too much (as if), there are also a range of savoury treats on offer including a selection of sandwiches like roasted beef and horseradish mayonnaise on a mini baguette, chicken Caesar on a mini croissant and smoked salmon with cucumber and cream cheese. Delightful.

There’s also more scones, cakes and pastries than you can shake a chocolate finger at, and 29 fine varieties of loose-leaf teas to wash it all down with.

The chocolate extravaganza tea will set you back Dhs220 (and could potentially be costly to your waistline), but that chocolate fountain isn’t going to drain itself.

We’ll be the ones with our pinkies out (and our faces dirty).
