Why you need to explore Abu Dhabi's Street Food Fest

When it comes to good, satisfying grub in a hurry, you just can’t beat street food.

We’re big fans of dining on the go, especially as Abu Dhabi has so many awesome venues just waiting to serve us up a treat in a flash.

And a new food festival is coming to The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi that is making our mouths water just thinking about it.

Street Food Fest is one of two new foodie experiences at the capital mall, designed to give a taster of the wide variety of cuisines available at the 45 places to eat inside.

Along with Dine Around The Hub, the city's foodies are in for a real treat at the mall over the next few weeks.

Last year, The Mall held its first-ever street food event, but this month is going even bigger and better, with a two-week outdoor market showcasing the best of food and retail it has to offer.

On the Liwa Street roadside (outside of Pancake House) there will be a whole row of food stalls and restaurant pop-ups.

It will run every evening from Friday, December 14 to Saturday, December 29 (from 5pm Friday and Saturday and 6pm Sunday to Thursday) and will bring the super food from inside the mall outside onto the pavements, serving taster-sized plates for between Dhs10 and Dhs15, giving you the chance to sample their delicious fare at pocket-friendly prices.

If Indian food is your thing then you’ll love the Indian-inspired plates from Tamba, the marinated kababs and creamy curries from the appropriately named Kababs and Kurries, and the Indian snacks from Arab Udipi.

If you’re looking for a light lunch, afternoon snack or late-night treat, a loaded bagel from Bagel Factory will satisfy any hunger cravings, while The Surf Café Abu Dhabi will be serving up nutritious, vegan and sugar-free options such as fresh sushi, vibrant salads and heart-warming soups.

Or, if you’re dreaming of a winter getaway to the Philippines, then you must try the grilled meats, noodles and stir fries from Filipino grill house Ihaw Juan.

Dome will also be dishing out international plates like pizzas and pastas, and Sugar Factory will be tempting guests with burgers, waffles and more classic American dishes.

We’re huge believers in the theory that pancakes work at any time of day, so we’re pleased to see Pancake House is dishing up huge stacks of them here, too.

The inspiration for the event comes from the open-air street food markets of South East Asia, and The Mall will harness that same buzz, hustle and bustle with the food stalls and street entertainment, fairy lights, seating areas and the kind of al fresco experience that this winter weather was made for.

Running alongside the Abu Dhabi Food Festival, it promises to offer great-value dishes from some of the best restaurants in the city, and if you spend Dhs100 at any of the stalls (or the restaurants inside the mall) during the two-week run you will be entered into a competition to win a trip for two to London.

Hopefully this is the start of an annual fixture on the capital’s foodie scene.

Fri Dec 14-Sat Dec 29. 4pm-11pm Fri-Sat; 5pm-11pm Sun-Thu. The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi, Liwa Street.
